Icon of Divine Mother «The addition of mind» was created under circumstances that determined its title. In the seventeenth century icon painter lived in Moscow. He read many religious books Iosifovskogo time. This man led a goodly life and was a passionate believer. But wondering various questions and thoughts, he began to read books that were prohibited and weren’t blessed by Patriarch Nikon.

Evil thoughts and doubts crept into his mind whether he was right before God, and what kind of laws and books he should live. He reflected for a long time and being in soul torments was to fall in turbidity of mind. And so he became crazy. He was scared and sad, and in moments of enlightenment, he prayed to Divine Mother of God, so that she helped him and saved from the madness. In hot prayers the Mother of God came to him. She punished to portray her in that manner in which she appeared to him in a vision, and to pray before her image. She promised, if he performs her order, he will get better and clear his mind. Icon painter prayed and painted image, listening to how God instructed him. Thus the icon of the Divine Mother was born, and it was called «The addition of mind of the holy virgin»
